This view is from Centre Street's historic steeple.
In 2021, Centre Street Church members and community friends came together to paint Machias's very first rainbow crosswalk. This project was spearheaded by Dwight and Peter, who were married here at our church a few years ago. Thanks to their planning and fundraising skills, the colors of the rainbow flag are now proudly displayed right in front of our church steps!
Because of the wicked winter weather that we experience here in Downeast Maine, crosswalks need to be repainted every year or so. So in June of 2022, we celebrated with a second crosswalk painting party. (Notice the special right-handed technique. Next time maybe we'll reverse the colors and paint left-handed.)
This colorful crosswalk is just one more way that Centre Street lives into the words that we say every Sunday morning:
"No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here."
Just be careful who you shake hands with!
